War of the Worlds

original print date, October 31 2003

.....
...................Paul Ryan

Halloween is here, and with it comes the 65th anniversary of "War of the Worlds", the famous radio broadcast presented by Orson Welles and The Mercury Theatre in 1938. The world panicked on that day, and the broadcast became the greatest radio moment in history. I can't think of anything better for Halloween than to offer a download of the full original program. But then again, I'm a pretty big dork, so it might not be as exciting as I think it is. But download it and listen to it anyway, because it's cool.

This is a 7.8 MB download, and it runs about 34 minutes. The original broadcast ran about an hour, with regular music programming put in between the announcements to make the broadcast sound real. This version has the long music breaks removed.

Anyway, get out there today and do something fun for Halloween. Don't just ignore it. Go trick-or-treating, even if you're too old. Dress up in a costume, even if your workplace doesn't allow it. Egg your neighbor's house, even if you like them. Celebrate the greatest holiday of the year!

Holy freakin' crap, it's Halloween! Here's a fun recipe called "Pumpkin Pie". It sounds sissy, but it's really not.

1 part Bailey's Irish Cream
1 part Kahlua
1/2 part Bacardi 151
Cinnamon

Shake the Bailey's and Kahlua together in a shaker before adding the Bacardi. Pour the contents into shot glasses, and sprinkle cinnamon on top of each. Then light them on fire. If you drink the shot before the fire is extinguished, then you are a dumbass.

Thanks Paul! I am adding this to my collection; I love War of the Worlds! The UWS theater department is doing War of the Worlds this weekend and next. Last night was opening night, and KUWS broadcast the show live from the Manion to honor the 65th anniversary of the original broadcast. Munson does a kick ass Welles.

Wow 143k/s must be a slow day at daily ramblings. Anyhow, great idea, I can add this to my collection of the original Hitchhikers guide radio broadcasts.
